How and when did Kimina Counseling start? What was our founding vision?

We officially launched in December 2020 in Massachusetts. Our practice was founded by Amina Mazzara and Kimberly Sanchez after they recognized a shared commitment to building a mental health practice centered entirely on client care.

Our founding vision was to create a structured, ethical, and compassionate outpatient mental health group practice where individuals, couples, and families could access high-quality, evidence-based therapy. From the beginning, our goal has been to prioritize clinical integrity, measurable progress, and culturally competent care over simple session volume.

What is our ultimate mission beyond providing care at Kimina Counseling?

Beyond providing therapy sessions, our mission is to increase access to structured, evidence-based mental health care throughout Massachusetts while maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards.

Our goal is not only symptom reduction, but long-term growth. We help our clients improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, build resilience, and function more effectively in parenting, academic, occupational, and interpersonal roles. We are committed to meaningful, lasting change.

What is the unique philosophy of care at Kimina Counseling?

Our philosophy blends compassion with structure. We believe therapy should be both relational and clinically grounded.

As a trauma-informed outpatient practice, we prioritize individualized treatment planning, measurable goals, nervous system regulation, cognitive and behavioral skill development, and ongoing evaluation of progress. Our approach is collaborative, culturally competent, and tailored to your specific needs rather than a “one-size-fits-all” model.

How do we approach client care differently at Kimina Counseling?

We have structured our practice to be organized without being rigid, supportive without being passive, and warm without losing clinical direction. What truly sets us apart is our commitment to evidence-based treatment combined with rigorous ethical and documentation standards.

While many practices focus primarily on supportive therapy, we emphasize active skill-building and clinically appropriate session frequency. We support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, relationship challenges, parenting stress, and life transitions.

How do we build trust with our clients at Kimina Counseling?

We build trust through transparency, consistency, and professionalism. From your first phone call through ongoing therapy, you will know exactly what to expect. We communicate clearly about confidentiality, treatment planning, and financial policies. We listen actively and provide thoughtful, clinically sound guidance. When you feel informed and respected, we believe comfort follows naturally.

What are three words that describe our culture at Kimina Counseling?

Compassionate. Ethical. Intentional.

What does a typical day look like for our staff at Kimina Counseling?

No two days are the same for us. One session may focus on trauma processing, another on anxiety management, and another on relationship or parenting challenges. Behind the scenes, our leadership ensures scheduling, insurance coordination, and clinical oversight are handled professionally so our clinicians can focus fully on your care. Our work is dynamic, meaningful, and deeply relational.

What continues to motivate us at Kimina Counseling?

We are motivated by witnessing meaningful change in our clients’ lives—seeing improved emotional regulation, healthier relationships, and greater stability in parenting and work. Building a team of relational, compassionate, and culturally competent clinicians who are committed to ethical excellence remains the driving force behind everything we do.

What is one thing every client should know about us at Kimina Counseling?

We want every client to know: “You are not broken. You are not too much. And you are not alone.” When you enter our practice, you are met with respect, competence, and care. We take your growth seriously and are honored to support your progress.

How do we engage with the community at Kimina Counseling?

We collaborate with colleges, medical providers, and other outpatient practices throughout Massachusetts to increase access to mental health services. These partnerships allow us to serve as a trusted referral resource and support continuity of care for individuals and families. We view community engagement as a vital extension of our responsibility as a local healthcare provider.

At what point in Amina Mazzara’s life did she decide to become a therapist?

Amina Mazzara decided to become a therapist as a teenager while searching for therapy herself. She struggled to find a provider who felt genuinely relational, present, and invested in the therapeutic connection. That experience shaped her professional path. She realized how much the quality of the therapist-client relationship matters in effective mental health care. Amina knew she wanted to build a practice where clients feel seen, understood, and supported — not like a number in a system. That early experience directly influenced how therapy services are structured today: grounded in connection, ethics, and individualized care.

What inspired Amina Mazzara to pursue a career in therapy?

Her inspiration grew from seeing firsthand how difficult it can be to access compassionate, relationship-centered therapy. She noticed that many mental health providers focused primarily on symptoms, but not always on the human connection behind them. That gap motivated Amina Mazzara to create a different kind of therapy experience — one that prioritizes trust, collaboration, and emotional safety. Her goal has always been to make high-quality mental health support more accessible, ethical, and deeply relational for individuals, couples, and families in the community.
